J3 Update Dec 9
Sorry folks, no pictures to post, but a quick update on where we are. We finally are getting some snow here at "the Beast", and we are looking forward to some great skiing. we had a day of SL turn shape drills yesterday on Double Dipper, and we will continue with that tomorrow morning. We also started using our new ergometer in the gym to start testing the athletes aerobic zones and power output. We will use this to tailor our training plans to maximize the benefit for each athlete.
Trivia for Dec 9
Anne got half the answer. The europa cup quota is determined by the number of athletes each nation has ranked in the top 100 in each discipline, plus 2 basis quota spots. So if a country has 5 athletes ranked in the top 100 in Slalom, their quota would be 7. There is a maximum of 10 spots, so if a country has 8 or more athletes ranked in the top 100, their quota remains at 10.
The part Anne didn't get is this: the quota is adjusted to the current FIS ranking list 5 times through the year.
Today's question: what is the Inferno?

Trivia for Dec 4
Anne got it right again. Herman is a world class rock climber. He is the oldest man ever to climb at the 5.13 level, and has pioneered some of the hardest routes in Rifle, Colorado.
Today's question: A GS race is being run in marginal weather and course conditions. After several delays of the start, the race finally starts at 12 pm. There are further holds due to falls and weather. at 3 pm with the first run not yet completed, it is obvious that the second run cannot be held that day. How long do they have to finish the first run? Can they run the second run the next day and have a legal race?

J3 Update Dec 3
Well the mammoth crew got back late last night, gretted by the lovely signs of this winter in Vermont- we drove through a downpour from Albany to Killington. The trip home was uneventful other than the longest check in known to man. It took well over 2 hours to check in 24 people. Nicole was the last one checked in and we got to security 15 minutes before the plane was scheduled to leave.
Catherine Lemieux arrived today, ready to jump in with both feet and help get the J3's ripping. We are excited to have her here and are looking forward to a great winter! Cat will be running the weekend program as well as working with our gang.

Trivia for Dec 3
Anne got it right. Herman Goellner invented the screw gate. They were originally called "Herman gates" by most. Herman was the head coach at SMS in the 70's and is currently at Sugar bowl.
Today's question: Herman has the distinction of being the oldest man to excel at the highest level of another sport. Which sport is it?

Trivia for Dec 2
No one has come close on the last trivia question. I will give everyone a hint: the inventor is a coach who is still active in the US. The original screw in gate was named after him. Good luck!
